When it rains....

Busy, busy, busy, busy, busy, busy.

We can hardly catch our breath- it seems like there's always something going on. For starters, we had a nice little flood in our house. The Atlanta area set a 1-week record for rainfall back in mid-May. On the last day of that rainy week, the bottom story of our house starting getting rather wet. Water was just soaking through the walls and the foundation- and we couldn't keep it out. We wound up with between a half an inch and 1 inch of water pretty much everywhere downstairs. There were 4 twisters spotted within 5 miles of our house that evening, but fortunately none of them touched down. We were busy enough trying to carry everything upstairs so it wouldn't be ruined. The next day, we tried taking up the carpet and drying it out, but it just kept raining the next few days and the carpet started stinking to high heaven. It was just over a year ago that we had this carpet installed! Caroline's desktop soaked up a lot of the humidity in the air and wound up being warped so bad that we had to get rid of it. It took almost a week to put down a new floor in the den and office- we went with a laminate wood floor this time, so it'll be a little easier to dry out/replace if we have another incident like this.

Not long after we finished putting the new floor in, we drove down to Texas for
Careen's wedding. It's always fun when one of your friends bites the big one, and now Caroline can't say that all her friends are still single! We stayed about a week and a half down there, although Derrick only took one day off from work. When you telecommute, you can work just about anywhere. While we were in Texas, Taylor and Joshua discovered how much fun a pool can be. Almost every day since we got back, Taylor has told us, "I want the cold water!".
