Break out your waders!

We had another little flooding incident a couple of weeks ago. Derrick woke up one morning, went downstairs to work as usual, and found his feet rather wet. It turns out that while we were blissfully asleep, there had been torrential downpours and flash floods all over the Atlanta area. It shouldn't have been a problem for us, because, after the last flood, we spent a fair amount of time working in the yard to re-route water drainage around our house. However, along with all this rain, the power went out for about 4 hours. No power means no sump pump. Without a working sump pump, the water table (which has been pretty dang high this year) filled up the crawlspace underneath the house and overflowed into the downstairs (sigh). This time, the laundry room caught the brunt of the flooding, which was very fortunate, because the floor in there is mostly bare concrete. However, we did have a little water get into the den and office again. The brand new floor is a little damaged, but we'll be leaving it in place until we can find a way to make sure this doesn't happen again (Get a gas-powered generator? Run a drain line under the house?).

Oma and grandpa (Derrick's parents) came down with aunt Veida to build a swingset/playset for Taylor and Joshua! Taylor was very excited about the whole thing, and both boys really enjoy playing on it (so do a lot of the other kids in the neighborhood).

Joshua is cruising around like there's no tomorrow. He's tried walking without holding on to anything, but he hasn't quite gotten the hang of it yet. He'll grab onto furniture, toys, walls, doors, people, or whatever else he can reach so that he can walk where he wants to go. He can crawl pretty fast, too. He's reached the age where he's getting into anything and everything. It's lucky for us that the house is still mostly babyproofed for Taylor. Joshua has quite the little temper on him- he makes a lot more noise than Taylor did when he's upset about something. Taylor has (finally) started to not get along so well with Joshie- he'll start screaming if Joshua comes up to him wanting to play. Part of it is probably that Joshua has a habit of taking Taylor's food away and eating it himself....
