A Feathered Nest

We are sharing our home with another family. Some birds moved in, built a nest and laid eggs in a planter on the back porch. We didn't want to move it and kill the babies so we figured we would just leave them alone for a while.
Big Daddy Bird is very protective of his babies. He is standing guard in the picture above (taken through a screen...sorry so blurry.) Derrick was attacked at one point. I guess they thought he looked like an egg eater.

Here is Big Daddy Bird warning everyone off. Does anyone know what kind of bird this is?

We know the eggs have hatched because we have heard the babies chirping. There were at least six eggs in the nest. What a lot of babies at one time! Poor Mama Bird!

Hopefully they won't be making this their permanent home sweet home. We like to be able to use the stairs without fear of a aerial assault.

The second year we lived here some birds built a nest in the tree in our front yard. We had a direct view of the eggs and little family from an upstairs window! Unfortunately, no birds have lived in it since.

I wish I can see those cute birdies. However, all I met were whole bunch of hungry mosquitoes out side of my room where in mid-town.

My inlaws are watching our house for us while we are here in Florida...they go by once a week or so to check on it...one of the last times Todd's mom went over there, she took a picture of some birds who made a nest in the wreath on the front door. Pretty funny! Probably time for a new wreath.
